Making a Crown Jubilee Plaque using Frenchic Paint and Iron Orchid Designs Castings
As a UK stockist of Frenchic Paint and Iron Orchid Designs I decided that I wanted to use both to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee. I could have done the easy thing and ordered bunting online but that's just not me! I'd rather make it than buy it!! It was really easy to create and was a fun project. You don't need very much equipment and it doesn't take ages to do. I had already made my castings a few days before I started so they were ready to paint and apply - the hardest part was measuring out for the flag. It didn't take me more than two hours to fully complete my project. Let's get started!
Equipment:
Piece of board
Frenchic Paint: Flamenco, Hornblower, Cream Dream
Frenchic Frenshimmer: Golden Oldie, Pearly Queen
Iron Orchid Designs Castings: Olive Crest, Swags, Cameos
Paintbrushes
Glue
Tape measure/ruler
Pencil
Plan out your flag on the board. I found a photograph on my phone and copied from that. I didn't mind that the proportions weren't exact as long as it resembled the flag.
To make sure that I didn't paint the wrong colours in the wrong places, I marked each band of colour: R for red, W for white and B for blue. It really did help because it was more complicated than I had expected! Don't worry about your pencil markings - they will be hidden under the paint as mine were.
I wanted my flag to look old so I chose not to use white paint - I thought it would look too stark. Instead I used Cream Dream from Frenchic Alfresco Range - it gave me just the look I was after. Frenchic Hornblower from the Lazy Range was perfect for the blue sections and I used Flamenco from Frenchic Artisan Original Range which is a lovely tomato red - it really stood out which looked great! I painted freehand keeping within the lines as much as I could. My board was quite rough and I used the texture to add to the vintage look. I wasn't bothered that the paint hadn't covered every bit because it helped to 'age' the plaque. I sealed the completed flag with Frenchic Finishing Coat - 2 coats.
The castings had turned out great! I used Amazing Casting Resin which is incredibly easy to use and gives a perfect casting of the gorgeous Iron Orchid Moulds. I had an assortment which I played around with to get the crown shape I wanted before sticking them on. Frenchic Frenshimmer is my favourite product at the moment! It's the consistency of cream and paints on beautifully. You can use it outside too which is a bonus if you have a flower pot, window frame, door handle etc that needs a bit of subtle bling adding. I painted all of my castings before applying them. When the Golden Oldie Frenshimmer had dried, I then did a little dry brushing over the high points of the castings with Frenchic Pearly Queen. It added a lovely silvery sheen and helped to add depth to the castings. I then glued them on.
Voila! Here she in all her glory! I have never designed a crown before but I was delighted with how it turned out! It's amazing what you can do with a bit of old board, some paint and castings!
I hope that you give this a try and have fun!
