Decorating SOS - Children's Bedrooms

It can be a tricky business choosing paint colours for children's bedrooms! Do you opt for bold and bright or calming and tranquil? Should you choose just pink or blue or mix it up a bit? What colours do your children like?

Let us start with Pink

Pink is a great colour that comes in variety of shades - it can be bright and beautiful or muted and vintage. The big bonus of pink is that it goes so well with other colours. Pink with elements of charcoal grey or black can look very dramatic and sophisticated. Pink and green can add a cheerful feel to your children's room - a big plus being that green is a calming and harmonious colour! Pink with neutrals can add warmth to the room adding hygge and relaxing vibes.

How about Blue?

Blue is an absolute classic colour for children's' bedrooms. For a fresh and modern feel pair blue with white or cream. If you fancy opting for a darker shade of blue be careful that it's not going to be too overpowering. A way to alleviate this is to use a lighter colour alongside your blue. Try using the half and half method of painting. This is where you paint the lower half/ portion of your walls in blue and the upper portion and ceiling in white. This gives you the best of both worlds!

Green is great!

Green is a super colour for children's bedrooms as it is restful and calming which is just what is required at bedtime! If you have a North facing room, green will be a warmer choice of colour to use than blue which could make the bedroom feel cold and unwelcoming. Lime green toned colours can be bright making them ideal for children and they are less intense and lack the energy of red for bedtime! Beautiful emerald greens with white can look modern and sophisticated.

Red for Bed?

Red is a stimulating colour which is not generally recommended for your children's bedrooms! It certainly isn't a good colour for relaxation when your children are off to bed! A way to compromise with children who desperately want a red room is to  add pops of red throughout. You can paint a small piece of furniture in red, have a red lampshade, a red rug, a red cushion, a red bean bag, red bunting or even red picture frames. These small red elements will add brightness without energy.

Now for Neutrals

Neutrals can be more than just creams and beiges. Beautiful muted pinks, sage greens and duck egg blues will allow your children's bedrooms to feel calm and relaxing. They are such good colours to use if you're not ready to go big and bold!
